If you're familiar with bluegrass music, then you're tuned in to some of what Greensky Bluegrass does. They're also known to throw a great party, rock n roll, and (if the critics are to be believed) they have great songs. They are unquestionably a team of friends that traverse the country making music they enjoy. What makes Greensky different than Bluegrass? Poignant rural ballads about real people? Dobro tone that Jerry (Douglas or Garcia) would love? Distortion Pedals? Grit and attitude from a whiskey soaked card game? Indeed, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

This quintet from Michigan has been staying up late at all the coolest festivals and stopping to play your favorite clubs and theaters across America for 11 years now. Nearly 175 shows per year has prepared them for the rigorous task of continuity. Greensky Bluegrass isn't slowing down. "They're coming to your town to help you party down." Yeah. Really. Like you never thought possible.

2011 has been a seminal year for Conspirator. Formed in 2004 by Aron Magner and Marc Brownstein (The Disco Biscuits keyboardist and bass player) along with New York producer DJ Omen, Conspirator has taken on many forms through the years. With the recent addition of virtuoso guitarist Chris Michetti and stalwart drummers Darren Shearer (the New Deal) and Mike Greenfield (Lotus), Conspirator has reached a new level.

As a full band, the music is hitting new highs, and with the addition of an arsenal of new material, crowds across the nation have begun to catch on. Conspirator can no longer be considered merely a side-project, but must be looked at entirely as its own entity.

Before Hot Chelle Rae "fueled up the Jeep with bubbly elasti-funk and breezy hip-hop swagger" (as Entertainment Weekly put it) with their brand new single "I Like It Like That," the Nashville-based quartet scored a bonafide breakthrough smash hit over the last several months with "Tonight Tonight." Declared "one of the catchiest pop-rock anthems of the summer" by USA Today, "Tonight Tonight" crashed into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in July like an unruly teenager, shot to No. 1 at Hot AC radio in September, was certified double-platinum in the U.S., and certified platinum in Canada and Australia. Meanwhile, its hilarious video (featuring a cameo by guitarist Nash Overstreet's brother, Glee's Chord Overstreet) has racked up nearly 30 million views online, energizing the group's active, devoted fan base. But it wasn't until Jon Stewart sang a snippet of its chorus on The Daily Show that the band realized just how thoroughly "Tonight Tonight" had penetrated the mainstream.

The much anticipated second album from Denver-based Tennis, "Young and Old," is set for release February 14, 2012 on Fat Possum Records. Their widely praised debut "Cape Dory," which The Wall Street Journal called "a winsome set of breezy pop songs," was released earlier this year. For their forthcoming album guitarist Patrick Riley, vocalist Aliana Moore and drummer James Barone headed to Nashville to work with The Black Keys' Patrick Carney. The first single from these sessions, "Origins," will be released on limited edition on blue 7" vinyl on December 6 via Forest Family Records. Over the last few months, Tennis has also released a series of covers as free downloads including "Is It True" by Brenda Lee and their take of "Tell Her No" by The Zombies. To support the new 7" and road rehearse new songs, the band will embark on a December run of west coast dates with The Miniature Tigers supporting

Future Rock

Chicago's own Future Rock have carved out a category largely their own, adding drifting elements of Krautrock and space rock to rhythmic textures that reference Motorik, funk and four-on-the-floor disco. Outside of hometown Chicago, they may be best known for high profile and excellent remixes of Daft Punk, Neon Indian, Black Moth Super Rainbow and DFA 1979. Back home they are justly celebrated for legendary performances such as their set at Wicker Park Fest that turned the entire neighborhood into a vast and energized dance floor, forcing even the palest and most resolutely hard-to-impress hipsters to call up their inner dance masters. Live performances combine loops, samples and Mickey Kellerman's keyboards with Darren Heitz's drums plus Felix Moreno's Larry Graham-style bass slapping to create an enormously powerful groove. Their light show is as good as their music, and their set have been known to inspire dance frenzies.
