As a multi-faceted, quadruple threat artist, Skepta embodies a scene’s ability to shift on its own terms. The Tottenham-raised Londoner — a product of the area’s Meridian Estate after a move from east as a toddler— operated behind the scenes in grime’s early days with Meridian Crew in the early 2000s as a DJ and producer, providing a backbone for his Hackney-born younger brother JME to take the mic alongside legends of the industry during an era of lyrical war, with calls for clashes maintaining the raw energy. Behind the boards for 2002’s Wiley and Youngstar inspired Gun Shot Riddim and 2004’s Meridian Crew-affiliated classic Private Caller, Skepta helped define the culture for years to come.

The legion of fiercely devoted DREAM THEATER diehards around the world expect nothing less than a smart, fully immersive, experiential journey through otherworldly soundscapes from each and every live performance, full-length album, and song.

Rightfully so, given the band’s three decades of continually redefining the parameters of hard rock and progressive heavy metal, overcoming obstacles, surpassing critical expectations, and resisting the incessant winds of industry uncertainty. Staying an exciting course in a sea littered with also-rans, pretenders, and opportunists, Dream Theater’s body of work endures with singular triumph.

The Slackers are a classic American band that is equal parts grit and grace. Their slow rise against the odds is a story of perseverance and a belief in their musical vision, what Vic likes to call, "Jamaican Rock N Roll." While they have been influenced, and even personally taught by Jamaican Ska/Reggae originators, like the Skatalites and the Upsetters (Original backing band for the Wailers), the band sees its music as an extension of the traditions of the United States. This band is equally appreciative of old Blues, Country, 60s Soul, Rock, and Rn'B as it is of Reggae, Rocksteady, Dub, and Ska. It is as if the Rolling Stones or the Yardbirds had grown up on Bob Marley as well as Muddy Waters.

EAA is offering historic flight experiences in its beautifully restored B-17G Flying Fortress “Aluminum Overcast.” One of only 13 Fortress's still flying, this aircraft is an icon of the Allied strategic bombing effort that helped turn the tide of battle in World War II. Turkuaz is a 9-piece “Powerfunk” army hailing from Brooklyn, NY, whose modern twist on the classic sound has placed them at the forefront of a new funk evolution. With the obvious influences—Parliament, Sly & The Family Stone, Rick James and Zapp and Roger—as the basis for a recipe, Turkuaz adds healthy doses of Talking Heads inspired jittery, world-pop-dance grooves and a passion for The Beatles, Motown and R&B into the mix, resulting in a refreshing update to the funk idiom.

AMZY is a fresh alternative rock/synth pop band from Denver, Colorado bringing unique sounds to life. While AMZY might seem brand-new to the music scene, AMZY front-man, Brennan Johnson, and guitarist, Sean Grant, have been collaborating and experimenting with music since 2005. Their passion for music and creativity fueled their early music experimentation into different music genres and eventually lead to the creation of AMZY. Drummer, Wes Barton and bassist, Nick Billings joined the band in 2014. AMZY won the KTCL Channel 93.3 Demo Derby Finale in June 2014 with their first song “Time to Change” and shortly afterward won KTCL Channel 93.3 Hometown for the Holidays for both best live performance and radio listener votes for their hit single “5 to Midnight.” In January 2015, AMZY released their debut EP at a sold out EP Release Party in Denver. Their EP album titled “We Don’t Walk, We Dance” was produced by Joe Richmond of Churchill and features five songs including the title track “We Don’t Walk, We Dance”, “5 to Midnight”, “Kiss Before You Bite”, “Dirty Little Liar” and “Feet on the Ground.”

Mesmerizing, spellbinding and genre-defying: With their fourth full-length studio release Extras In A Movie, Papadosio reveals a striking cinematic cornucopia of sounds: orchestral, electronic, organic, acoustic, psychedelic and celestial. Heavy metal is a way of life, but it is not for the faint of heart. The history of metal is strewn with fading memories of bands that fell apart when times were tough. But history is written by the victors, and Amon Amarth have been marching purposefully from triumph to greater triumph for the last two decades. Formed amid the fertile Swedish metal scene in the mid ‘90s, these dedicated diehards brought a new sense of drama and destruction to the world of heavy music, propagating tales of Viking mythology and mortal combat over a devastating soundtrack of crushing rhythms, refined melody and rousing, rebellious refrains. From the release of their debut album Once Sent From The Golden Hall in 1998, Amon Amarth’s trajectory was firmly upward, as this band’s devotion to touring the world and spreading their inspirational creed began to resonate with ever-growing hordes of like-minded metalheads, first across Europe and then, in true Viking style, across the Atlantic and into North America.

If you want to find Garrett Borns a good place to look would be up. “I live in a treehouse,” the artist says of his home in the Los Angeles canyons. It was the first place BØRNS, originally from rural Michigan, landed when he relocated from New York to LA and immediately, something about it felt right. “In New York, I was writing darker, more melancholy music. I loved the pace and creative stimulation of the city but I wanted to see what a change of scenery would do to my writing.” So he left New York, where his roommate was a weed-smoking, rock-climbing cat lady, for Los Angeles, where his roommates were chirping birds and butterflies. “It brought me right back to those days when I was a kid making tree forts in my backyard,” he remembers. “It brought out my inner child, but in a very enlightening and meditative way. My kitchen was outside. All I heard at night were crickets and coyotes. And I was writing a lot of music.”

Please join us for ECDC's African Community Center's 15th Anniversary Gala. May 2016 will mark 15 years of successful refugee resettlement for the African Community Center. In 2001, ACC was formed with only 3 employees resettling 60 refugees with one program. Fast forward to today, ACC has 50 employees resettling over 550 refugees and several successful programs. We have so much to celebrate! The event is at the Brown Palace Hotel in downtown Denver where you will enjoy drinks and hors d'oeuvres, a silent and live auction, and dancing to a live band. When singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Tori Kelly first played her new single “Nobody Love” for her friends, their initial reaction to the rhythmic, big-sounding pop track was, “Oh, this is really different for you.” “That was interesting to me because in my head, this is the style of music I always envisioned myself doing: urban pop with a hip-hop type of Lauryn Hill twist on it,” says Kelly, who first rose to attention with her intimate, acoustic guitar-driven EPs Handmade Songs and Foreword. “I was always a singer first, then the guitar made its way in on its own. A song like ‘Nobody Love’ was always the vision. This is where I knew I would end up.”

Simply put, Tortoise has spent nearly 25 years making music that defies description. While the Chicago-based instrumental quintet has nodded to dub, rock, jazz, electronica and minimalism throughout its revered and influential six-album discography, the resulting sounds have always been distinctly, even stubbornly, their own.

Like a lot of the most celebrated art in society, great music is created in an organic fashion, absent the agenda for fame or fortune. Such art is manifested out of passion and an internal drive to bring to life a vision, sound or shape. That is very much the case with how Rob Garza and Eric Hilton embarked on the musical odyssey that is Thievery Corporation.

For eighteen years The Expendables have been bringing their perspective to the world of reggae rock. Instead of following the traditional cookie-cutter blend of reggae, punk, ska and hip-hop commonly replicated in the genre, The Expendables have perfected their own unique approach of face-melting solos, mind-bending jams and danceable grooves, blurring the lines of where one genre ends and another begins.
