Don McLean is one of America's most enduring singer-songwriters and is forever associated with his classic hits "American Pie" and "Vincent (Starry Starry Night)". Since first hitting the charts in 1971, Don has amassed over 40 gold and platinum records world-wide and, in 2004, was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame. His songs have been recorded by artists from every musical genre, most notably Madonna's No. 1 recording of "American Pie" in 2000 and George Michael's version of "The Grave" in 2003, sung in protest at the Iraq War.
Judy Collins has inspired audiences with sublime vocals, boldly vulnerable songwriting, personal life triumphs, and a firm commitment to social activism. In the 1960s, she evoked both the idealism and steely determination of a generation united against social and environmental injustices. Five decades later, her luminescent presence shines brightly as new generations bask in the glow of her iconic 50-album body of work, and heed inspiration from her spiritual discipline to thrive in the music industry for half a century. - See more at: http://arvadacenter.org/on-stage/don-mclean-judy-collins-2014#sthash.l0JNTjGK.dpuf

There are few artists whose names are synonymous with one instrument and how it's played in service to an entire genre. Kenny Wayne Shepherd at Arvada Center

Utter the phrase "young blues guitarist" within earshot of anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the modern musical vanguard and the first name they are most likely to respond with will be Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Still barely in his 30s, the Louisiana born axeman and songsmith has been selling millions of albums, throwing singles into the Top 10, shining a light on the rich blues of the past and forging ahead with his own modern twist on a classic sound he has embodied since his teens. He met Stevie Ray Vaughan at 7, shared the stage with New Orleans legend Bryan Lee at 13. As an adult, he continues to create genre-defining blues-infused rock n' roll.

Olde Town Arvada Brings Summer Fun at 2nd Saturday Street Festivals

Summer evenings in Olde Town Arvada will again come to life at the upcoming 2nd Saturday Street Festivals, presented by Historic Olde Town Arvada. The music of regional favorites The Wendy Woo Band, Kory Brunson Band, and Doctor Robert will echo down Grandview Avenue on June 14, July 12 and August 9 from 4:30pm-10:00pm. Of course, the best way to enjoy live music in a charming historic shopping district is with a plate of tasty street food and an ice cold beer! Visitors will find plenty of food choices, beer and wine, and shopping options from vendor booths lining the street. Olde Town Arvada events always signal family fun, and the 2nd Saturday Street Festivals are no exception. A wide array of kids’ activities will create a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for guests of all ages. The recent Olde Town Arvada St. Patrick’s Day Festival brought nearly 4,000 people into Olde Town, and citizens are already buzzing about the summer events.

“Olde Town Arvada is really becoming a destination for activities, and these festivals represent that spirit well. From the music to the beer to the Kids Zone, we’ll have something for everyone and we’ll give people a reason to stay out for a few hours,” states event coordinator Adam Mueller. “I think people enjoy celebrating summer, and they enjoy celebrating in Olde Town Arvada. The charming historic shopping district we have here makes a perfect backdrop for street festivals.”

Historic Olde Town Arvada will be closing down Grandview Avenue, just east of Olde Wadsworth Boulevard, for each 2nd Saturday Street Festival. The event area will be enclosed to ensure a fun, safe, and relaxed experience, and also to allow beer and wine to be sold on the street. Entry is free of cost and all are invited to come. Tickets to purchase drinks will be sold at locations within the event area. Parking is free, with the best spots available in the long-term parking lots near the Jefferson County Library and the historic Flour Mill.

For more information on these festivals, including vendor, volunteer, and sponsorship opportunities, please visit the Historic Olde Town Arvada website at http://www.oldetownarvada.org/

The Throwdown is an annual event for fun people who want to enjoy an afternoon in the park playing some Cornhole, a classic lawn game, with friends, while supporting a great local educational non-profit. Whether you’re an expert or you’ve never heard of the game before, it is a great time for all. Relax, no experience is needed to participate! The Throwdown raises money for the Cottonwood Institute to help support our programs to connect diverse students to the outdoors and empower them to take action to improve their schools, their communities, and the environment. It’s a noble cause.

"New life will be brought into the new music I've been working on and my older work via remixing, via the live band, and via the sounds of live symphonic composition in the most acoustically beautiful venue anywhere,” Pretty Lights' Derek Vincent Smith said.
